Jain University organises a Strays' Adoption Camp

As part of the week-long community building initiatives' Jain University has been undertaking, was the Adoption of Strays, held at Cubbon Park on Sunday

Under the banner of National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) and Wadhwani Foundation,Jain University’s- Community Radio- Radio Active 90.4 MHz and JC Road Campus in association with The Golden Husk an NGO launched a project on Street Animal Management & Welfare in Bangalore, with special reference to Street Dogs called Stray Pals on 7th February 2010 at Cubbon Park near Karuna Office from 10am to 3 pm 

Applauding the initiative, Dr.B.C. Ramkrishana – President Karuna, Chief Guest urged the students to adopt more community dogs. Ms. Pinky Chandran said that this project spread over 2009-15 seeks to work with the government, primary, middle, high school students and college students and their teachers, community people, NGOs and other interested public to better start dog management ad welfare. Jain University’s-Radio Active and The Golden Husk’s thrust will be on encouraging adoption of community dogs.

Adding on Prashant Jalan a student from Jain University said that students must come forward and encourage the community to adopt street animals and provide homes to the homeless.

Activites: Over 15 pups found new homes, when volunteers adopted them. Pet Zones and Pet Needs offered nutritional food supplement to the adopters of the pups. Anagha, aged 6 threw a tantrum, when her father Karthik refused to let her adopt a pup. Finally she went home with two pups. Rahul Poral, Chaitanya and Rivas enthralled the audience with their soulful music The street art competition saw enthusiastic children writing stories about their pets. 

Radio Active and The Golden Husk felicitated Animal Welfare Organizations like CUPA, Karuna, and People for Animals  This project spread over 2009-15 seeks to work with the government, primary , middle, high school students and college students and their teachers, community people, NGOs and other interested public to better start dog management ad welfare. Jain University’s-Radio Active and The Golden Husk’s thrust will be on encouraging adoption of community dogs.

The main objectives are:
  • To create awareness and mass education to the public street dog management and welfare
  • To involve communities in adopting street dogs or community dogs
  • To have mass sterilization and vaccination drives
  • To treat dogs that are mal-nourished, injured, diseased

Adopt a furry friend and make a difference. Note: All the pups available for adoption have been vaccinated and cleaned.
