Fuel Price Hike, and what people are saying
Price of petrol will now beRs 50.28 per liter where as diesel will cost Rs 36.80 per liter for bangaloreans.

Just ahead of the Union Budget, the government has increased the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 4 and Rs 2 respectively. Which means the price of petrol will likely be Rs 50.28 per liter where as diesel will cost Rs 36.80 per liter.

The government conveniently blames the hike on the rising fuel costs. It is also quick to point out that there will be no changes in the LPG and kerosene prices. Nevertheless, this steep hike in fuel prices does affect the common man considerably. We asked around and this is what people had to say about the matter.
Ram Gopal, a retired professor says, “This was expected. Any government, as soon as they come to power forgets the promises they had made before and instead does things like this. UPA government is no different. Common man suffers all the time. Now with the fuel price hike, we end up paying more for not just fuel but many other commodities as well.”
Sadhana, a second year B Com student says, “My father might now ask me to travel by public transport and stop using my 2 wheeler due to the hike in fuel prices. With this kind of fuel prices travelling by the 2 wheeler does become very expensive. I feel there is no point in going for private transportation these days.”
Kanchan Kaur, a housewife says, “We have 2 cars at home. One is used by my husband for his work and the other is used by me. I drop my kids back and forth to school every day and to run other chores. Now with the hike in the fuel prices I guess we need to forgo the use of a car. It is the responsibility of the government to make sure the prices of the essential commodities does not go up. But all the time it happens otherwise. Now along with petrol we have to pay more for other stuff like vegetables and food items.”
Ramkrishna, an auto driver says, “The fuel prices in our city are already the highest in the country. I don’t know how much more they will increase. Transportation has become a nightmare in Bangalore due to these high pieces. Government should do something about this.”
