TravelWise plans your weekend Travel

by Staff Reporter   |  07. November 2009

Arun and Lakshmi, shed their power suits to start TravelWise, customized travel plans for city people looking to get out of town.

Lakshmi and Arun are two people who do not conform to norms. Lakshmi an ad professional and Arun a software engineer shed their identities corporate identities to do what they love doing. Traveling. They took this a step further to convert it into TravelWise.

Lakshmi an ad professional turned to researching ancient temples and Arun a software professional turned travel writer met on one of their escapades and came up with the idea of sharing all the knowledge with the world but with a more entertaining overtone that led to the birth of ‘TravelWise’ a company that incorporates travel with learning in a unique way.

Lakshmi and Arun give a traveler more than just a travel experience. With Travel wise you get to see and explore places that the regular tourist map fails to show. Arun says “ Most people travelling for example to see the Hoysala temples only know about Belur and Halebeedu but there is so much more to explore in that area, which the average tourist never gets to hear about let alone see. The place are scattered all around the area and are just as beautiful and significant.” Places like Basthalli, Belavaadi, Doddagadavalli have some of the most beautiful temples and forts minus the crowded tourist buses. You get to stay in the villages and have food that is typical of that part of the Karnataka, thereby supporting local economy too.

TravelWise experts spend a lot of time researching about places to travel to. They speak to the experts to know more about history, culture, biodiversity and other aspects of interest to the travellers. They talk to the locals to understand the traditions, stories and legends associated with the places. They go through research materials and documents to design trails around a destination as a story telling session that grips even the marginally interested tourist. Travelers benefit from the weeks of travel and months of research by the organizers.

At TravelWise, the tours focus on every aspect of experiential travel, such as nature, wildlife, culture and food. At present a well researched trail on the Hoysala Kingdom near Belur and Halebeedu is being conducted regularly, which is received enthusiastically by keen eyed travelers. More trails are on the design table. There are places of interest that would not have come to light for most travelers for an informative and travel wise weekend.

These guys are constantly coming up with new trails to keep that interested traveler engaged. “The Coromandel trail in Tamil Nadu is one thing we are working on. It takes us time to master a trail, because we do a thorough research on potential places of interest. We don’t want to offer what your average tour operator dishes out, people who travel with us are with us for a reason.” says Lakshmi. Their upcoming trip is to the Kodava strong hold Coorg, the land of coffee and it sure will not be your regular weekend trip to Coorg. You get to spend time the authentic Coorgi way in a home stay where you get to know about the history of the place and to explore coffee estates and everything else about coffee.

At TravelWise maximum number of people in a group is ten. Most trips cost Rs.3950/- per head all inclusive, travel, food and accommodation. Trips start Saturday morning and end Sunday night.
